Xbrane Biopharma was founded at the center for Biomembrane research at Stockholm University. The scientific founders were Jan-Willem de Gier and Samuel Wagner, under the leadership of Gunnar von Heine, Swedens most cited scientist in the area of molecular biology.
Jan-Willem de Gier
Jan-Willem de Gier is a Professor at the University of Stockholm and co-inventor of the Xbrane Lemo System and co-founder of Xbrane Biopharma.
His research centers around systems to improve the production of recombinant proteins in E. coli. In short, to identify the bottlenecks hampering protein production and apply this information to engineer or select for strains with improved production characteristics. The research utilizes a host of different techniques: advanced bacterial genetics, molecular biology, flow cytometry, fluorescence microscopy, proteomics, mass spectrometry and whole genome sequencing. He has contributed to 116 scientific articles.
Samuel Wagner
Prof. Samuel Wagner is a Professor at Tübingen University in Germany. He is one of the co-founders of the company and co-inventor of the Xbrane Lemo System. He was listed by the magazine Capital as one of the most influential junior scientists in Germany in the selection 4 x 40 under 40. He became head of the Section of Cellular and Molecular Microbiology in 2015 and tenured professor in 2018. Samuel has contributed to 44 scientific articles.
